Protecting Students, Educating Parents, and Continuing the Legacy of Gavin’s Law Across Our Communities
This week, the Less Than Three Foundation partnered with Rock Hill Schools to deliver vital education on digital safety, sextortion awareness, and online predatory dangers.
Returning to Rock Hill High School, the alma mater of Gavin Guffey, our mission was clear: equip students with the tools to recognize predatory tactics, eliminate the stigma around seeking help, and empower families and educators with proactive safety strategies. These assemblies continue our statewide commitment to fulfilling the promise of South Carolina’s Gavin’s Law (H. 3583) and ensuring no child faces digital exploitation alone.
Event Highlights & Week in Review
- Rock Hill High School Assemblies: Tailored presentations for students focusing on identifying financial sextortion schemes, protecting personal digital footprints, and immediate crisis steps.
- District-Wide Outreach: Engaging sessions across local high schools addressing peer support, safe online habits, and breaking the culture of silence around online threats.
- Community & Parent Education Forum: An evening session providing caregivers with actionable monitoring tools, warning signs of online distress, and practical strategies for open conversations at home.
Critical Resources & Action Steps
- It Is Never Your Fault: Online predators rely on isolation, panic, and shame. Reaching out for help is always the right first step.
- Stop, Block, & Report: Never pay, send additional images, or negotiate. Preserve evidence by taking screenshots, block the predator immediately, and inform a trusted adult or law enforcement.
- Gavin’s Law Protections: Sexual extortion is a felony in South Carolina. Resources and legal safeguards exist to protect victims and hold perpetrators accountable.
